Today's Grammar

得 (dé) can also work as a modal verb meaning "must/have to" (not only the complement particle from HSK3), e.g. 我得道歉 (I must apologize).

我得跟他道歉。
Wǒ děi gēn tā dàoqiàn.
I must apologize to him.
这件事让我很吃惊。
Zhè jiàn shì ràng wǒ hěn chī jīng.
This matter made me very startled.
她很害羞,不敢在很多人面前说话。
Tā hěn hàixiū, bù gǎn zài hěn duō rén miànqián shuōhuà.
She is very shy, she doesn't dare speak in front of many people.
我很感谢你的帮助,也很感动。
Wǒ hěn gǎnxiè nǐ de bāngzhù, yě hěn gǎndòng.
I am very grateful for your help, and also very touched.
他考试没考好,很后悔没努力学习。
Tā kǎoshì méi kǎohǎo, hěn hòuhuǐ méi nǔlì xuéxí.
He didn't do well on the exam, he regrets not studying hard.
