报仇 vs 报复: both mean "to take revenge," but 报仇 (bàochóu) is used for avenging a serious wrong against oneself or one's family, while 报复 (bàofù) is broader — retaliating against anyone for any offense, even a small one, and can take an object (报复某人).
他决心要为父亲报仇。
He was determined to avenge his father.
她因为被同事批评，就想报复他。
Because she was criticized by a coworker, she wanted to retaliate against him.
这不是报复，只是让你明白错误。
